A new beginning for Maidens of the Kaleidoscope
« on: February 12, 2020, 08:57:40 AM »
Welcome to Maidens of the Kaleidoscope v3! We hope to make the site transition as smooth as possible.

For the sake of helping members feel familiar despite the fresh start and change of leadership, we've started with a similar color scheme and layout, as well as including all the forums that were still active on the previous site.

If you have any suggestions on changes to make, or features you liked that have not been ported over, they would be appreciated. We've created the Resurrection Butterfly forum for the purpose of open discussion about the site.

Please feel free to recreate ongoing threads. However, for informational threads that haven't been updated recently, please rewrite them instead of copy-pasting the first post. This will help catch any information that is out of date.

Forum roles have not been carried over. Feel free to discuss any roles you might like to revive from the old MotK (e.g. is there any interest in the return of the idiot hierarchy? What about the symbolic artist/writer roles?), or make new proposals.

MotK is dead, long live MotK!

I chuckled when I saw the registration dates of the Touhou characters on the forums.

Wow that was fast. I wasn't expecting v3 to come to fruition for a few more weeks at least. Nice job everyone.

I'm glad to finally be here! I am very optimistic about the future of the forum.

Glad to see our new site up and running so quickly. Cheers, friends.

Here's to another great new chapter in MotK's history.

ed: since ya mentioned it, idiot hierarchy was kinda fun even if I were only briefly a part of it. if there is enough general interest it could be nice to see a return of it, although I know it died down in recent times.

I have to admit, for all of the circumstances surrounding this move, it's supremely cathartic to not see "200+ Guests" in the Users Online section at the bottom of the forum index anymore.

Are those bots?

Yes. That build of the forums has been slow for years (with registration disabled entirely for quite a while) due to the constant tidal wave of spam viewership.

im pretty sure motk v2 is super ancient, so when i got there in 2019 i didnt know where to start, was overwhelmed by all the boards and threads, and never made a post. in fact i think i only made a profile to access areas  off limits to guests

but this is a fresh start and theres nothing to be overwhelming so this new motk i swear ill be active on, and its good that i joined early

It feels very quaint being a part of this new iteration. Seeing familiar faces in switched positions still feels quite strange, but it does make sense; many of the 'old guard' if we're still using jargon like that are in different places in life so new people with equal experience are here to take up the mantles and work to bring new life here.

Thank you all for making that happen.

its funny since this looks almost exactly like the other motk, but its really empty and yeah some peoples positions are different. its nice that karisa bothered to keep the sites aesthetic because now its like nothing is different

11 years? i think thats ancient enough

It's funny, because lately I've been telling my fiancé all about the things I like about Touhou (she is entirely unfamiliar with it) and specifically about Aya, which ofc set off this reverie of thinking about the many memories I had of this site, e.g., Douchebag in Gensokyo, that drama cyclone about the Touhou Smash Bros fangame, that "dating game" contest... but mostly just thinking about what keeps me a fan of this franchise in the first place.

It's a real shame about the circumstances, and I'm still kind of processing it, but it's bittersweet to be re-introduced to this forum.

Thanks ^_^ We're getting married next month, too. I'm super excited. Especially as it's the Norse Pagan organisation officiating it. They've never done a gay trans wedding so it's a feather in their cap for sure.

The theme's thanks to Tom, actually. Most of the technical and visual aspects of the forum setup are, though I added the profile fields myself. The ability to enter your Twitch account was one of the most popularly requested features on the old site. And the gender field felt important for continuing on helvetica's legacy. I've come to like the pronoun clarification it gives, after years of using MotK.

Thankfully right now we simply don't have HTTPS enabled, as opposed to a bad certificate.
